Dr. Gower is a pediatric pulmonologist whose prior training and ongoing research has been focused on understanding and differentiating the different phenotypes of pediatric lung disease. His research and expertise span both the most common form of respiratory disease in children, asthma, as well as rare and genetic lung diseases. His early research training focused on disorders of surfactant metabolism and he is also a leading expert in lung disease that sometimes occurs after stem cell transplantation. In addition to being a leading clinician educator for trainees at UNC, he is an expert who develops training guidelines and recommendations with the American Thoracic Society, the chILD Research Network, and the online medical education website UpToDate.
