Melanie hails from Benson, NC and she studied Biology at NC State. At UNC she was a Kenan Rural Scholar, participating in Longitudinal Enrichment Didactics on Leadership, Health Resources, QI, and point of care ultrasound. She also took part in the UNC Black Alumni Experience Project, documenting their experiences at UNC SOM. She spent time working with the Migrant Farmworkers clinic, helping to provide bilingual, mobile, and affordable access to primary health care services to nearly 300 farm workers. She enjoys baking, breadmaking, cooking vegetarian fare, gardening, reading memoirs, listening to audio books, and travelling!
