About Us
Welcome to the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Our department was founded in 1995 by Michael Y. Lee, MD, MHA and our current Chair is Joshua J. Alexander, MD. Our mission is to improve the health, function, and well-being of people across North Carolina and beyond through excellence in patient care, education, research, and innovation. Our rehabilitation medicine physicians, called physiatrists, manage the care of patients through an interdisciplinary rehabilitation team of colleagues within UNC Health Care system. Our department’s research faculty and neuropsychologists further develop our holistic approach, ensuring well-being, maximum functional abilities, and cognitive and psychological health for patients with physical impairment and cognitive dysfunction. Our Wellness and Diversity and Inclusion Committees meet monthly for faculty, staff, and resident/fellows.In addition, our department partners with professional colleagues to increase both our local and global outreach.
