All about Dr. Patel!

Amy is originally from Boston, MA where she developed a love for New England sports and became intrigued by musculoskeletal and brain injuries in football. She grew up outside of Atlanta and attended Georgia Tech, where she was a part of the inaugural class of B.S. in Neuroscience graduates, earned a Minor in Health and Medical Studies, and completed an undergraduate thesis in three years. She was the Founder of the Pre-Student Osteopathic Medical Association (Pre-SOMA) at GT through which she advocated for osteopathic medicine at national conferences and at DO Day on the Hill. After graduation, Amy worked as a Medical Assistant while launching her global wellness podcast, Brain Meets Mind. She obtained her Master’s in Medical Science at the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM) in Bradenton, FL before moving to LECOM in Elmira, NY for her medical degree. During medical school, she was nominated to serve as a Brain Health Scholar, a two-year appointment designed to enhance understanding of brain health and lifestyle medicine. Her research has focused on nervous system injuries leading to disability, caregiving for aging populations, pain management, and immunotherapy in neuro-oncology. As the Co-Host of The Pathways in PM&R Podcast, she is passionate about education and mentorship in physiatry. Her career interests include neurorehabilitation, musculoskeletal recovery and minimally-invasive procedures that improve quality of life. In her free time, Amy enjoys kickboxing, pickup sports (flag football and basketball), sipping matcha, reading about self-improvement, and experimenting with plant-based recipes. She is dedicated to personal and professional growth and has built character based on resilience and optimism – values which have aligned her to succeed as a physiatrist serving her patients.
