Rachel Phillips, PPMH project coordinator, presented a poster titled “Precision Health Genetic Screening: Where Is The Pipeline Leaky?” at the 2023 UNC Genetics Department Retreat in September. This poster explored the topic of participant retention in the Precision Health Genetic Screening (PHGS) program. Rachel worked with Erica Baynard and Kim Foss, MS, CGC to analyze questionnaire data and determine which groups within PHGS program had the greatest numbers of participants who did not complete the screening process. The data was categorized by age, sex, and self-reported ancestry, and it showed that certain age groups had higher numbers of non-completion. This revealed some interesting opportunities for future research which will hopefully address any “leaks” in the pipeline and improve retention for the PHGS program.
