Self‐compassion training for certified nurse assistants in nursing homes

Self-compassion training programs were taught to certified nurse assistants at the nursing home where they were employed. The programs were shown to be feasible and acceptable, and stress and depression improved significantly post-program, and therefore show promise for managing stress and improving wellbeing and compassion toward residents.

Certified nursing assistants’ experiences with self-compassion training in the nursing home setting

Self-compassion programs were offered to 22 certified nursing assistants in nursing homes. Qualitative data analyses from post-training focus group discussions identified four themes pertaining to changes in: (1) stress management, (2) appreciation and support, (3) caregiver role, and (4) connection to others.
