Our clinicians are nationally and internationally recognized as experts in the mental health field, and our provided services encompass necessary care for patients of all ages.
Adult Psychiatry
It is our objective to provide a comprehensive array of clinical services that span the spectrum of psychiatric illness. Treatment is individually tailored and tries to maximize a person’s natural abilities and skills. It is used in conjunction with the person’s other health care providers and medications to achieve optimal management of his or her symptoms.- Inpatient Services: Consult/Liaison and Behavior Medicine, Geriatric Evaluation and Management Program
- Outpatient Services: Acute Diagnostic And Treatment Clinic, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Intensive Outpatient Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Psychotherapy Education Clinic, Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) Service, Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS), Outreach and Support Intervention Services (OASIS)

Child and Adolescent Psychiatry
In response to the great need for care, our department has doubled our child and adolescent psychiatry services. Children and families with mental health concerns can find comprehensive evaluation and treatment services provided by experienced specialists within our department.
Interventional Psychiatry
UNC Psychiatry currently provides Interventional Psychiatry services to patients, including Intranasal Esketamine (Spravato), and Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS). These new therapies treatments complement more established treatments such as Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT).
Telepsychiatry
Video visits allow you to meet with your UNC Psychiatry provider using a secure, internet-based platform from your smartphone, laptop, or desktop computer. It removes the usual barriers that you might have going to appointments in-person, while still maintaining the high-quality of care you expect from UNC Psychiatry.
Forensic Psychiatry
The Clinic is a statewide and national resource for high-quality civil and criminal forensic evaluations and expert testimony. Through ongoing involvement in training, education and research, we integrate the most current science into our consultations and evaluation services.
Wellness Initiatives
Provider burnout is a national, complex, and systemic issue. Medicine is facing an era of rapid and continuous change in nearly every way: payment models, technology, standards for clinical practice, and consumer driven healthcare. To combat this issue, UNC has adopted the Quadruple Aim: a focus on enhancing patient experience, improving population health, reducing costs, and improving provider work life. The way forward requires novel approaches that integrate and add wellness as a critical metric in our collective performance as an institution.- Featured Programs: Taking Care of Our Own, Integrated Emotional Support Program, and Peer Support Program
