About
Hannah Harms serves as the Suicide Prevention Coordinator for North Carolina, a joint position between the UNC Suicide Prevention Institute (SPI) and the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services’ Division of Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities, and Substance Use Services (DMH/DD/SUS). In this role, she bridges academic research and public health practice to advance statewide suicide prevention efforts and drive impactful change.
Hannah holds a Bachelor of Science in Public Health Science from the University of Maryland and brings valuable experience working across federal, state, and local levels. She plays a key role in implementing and advancing North Carolina’s Suicide Prevention State Action Plan, collaborating with cross-sector partners to ensure initiatives are evidence-based, effectively executed, and responsive to community needs.
Hannah is committed to fostering a statewide culture of prevention that prioritizes stigma reduction, ensures equitable access to mental health care, and encourages cross-sector collaboration to create a supportive environment where North Carolinians can seek help and thrive, free from the burden of suicide.
Witnessing the impact of suicide, I’m committed to prevention and fostering supportive, life-saving communities.
