About
Dr. Mariann Howland is a Clinical Psychology Fellow within the UNC Center for Women’s Disorders. She is passionate about mental health care and research focused on the transformative life phases of pregnancy and the postpartum period. Dr. Howland treats a range of clinical concerns and has particular interest in bipolar disorders, postpartum psychosis, obsessive-compulsive disorders, trauma, and perinatal loss.
With joint doctoral training in clinical and developmental psychology, Dr. Howland appreciates that development continues over the lifespan and across generations. She has extensive clinical and research experience with perinatal individuals and has also provided therapy to families with young children, children/teens, parents of teens, and women in midlife. She offers a range of evidence-based psychotherapies, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Exposure and Response Prevention, Prolonged Exposure, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.
Dr. Howland is dedicated to providing care with compassion and cultural humility, while centering patient voice and choice. She values the opportunity to collaborate with psychiatry, OB-GYN, social work, and other disciplines to advocate for the high-quality, interdisciplinary care that her patients deserve.
