About
Dr. Parisa Kaliush is a postdoctoral researcher and clinician in UNC’s NIMH T32 training fellowship in reproductive mood disorders. This fellowship is the only NIH-funded training program on reproductive mood disorders in the nation.
Dr. Kaliush earned her PhD in clinical psychology at the University of Utah, where she specialized in child and family health and behavioral medicine. She received exceptional clinical training in evidence-based psychotherapies across the lifespan, with particular focus on more severe and acute mental illness, such as posttraumatic stress disorder and suicidality. Her research was informed by this clinical training and involved working with families during pregnancy and postpartum to better understand how their mental health was influenced by numerous factors, such as early life adversity, sleep disturbances, and limited socioeconomic resources.
At UNC, Dr. Kaliush conducts research on perinatal sleep health and suicide prevention. Clinically, she conducts brief therapy with perinatal individuals experiencing insomnia. She is committed to working with some of the most stigmatized and underserved populations, and she feels passionately about helping families access evidence-based mental healthcare, increasing their capacities to thrive, and preventing suicide and suffering across generations.
