Robert Mealer, MD, PhD
Assistant Professor
Areas of Interest
Genetics of severe mental illness, schizophrenia and bipolar disorder
About
As an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Genetics, Dr. Mealer’s research focuses on schizophrenia risk genes and glycosylation, the process of adding carbohydrates to proteins and lipids to regulate their function. He hopes to develop new tools to diagnosis and treat individuals affected by conditions including schizophrenia and bipolar disorder based on our understanding of how specific genes increase the risk of developing severe mental illness.
