Dr. McElligott is interested in the mechanisms that underlie various affective disorders including anxiety disorders, depression and substance abuse. She typically studies subcortical areas associated with these pathologies and specializes in adrenergic modulation. Dr. McElligott uses opto- and pharmacogenetic methods in combination with electrophysiology, voltammetry, and behavior to study these systems.
