The National Institutes of Health (NIH) is accepting new and renewal applications from September 1 through November 20, 2025 for its Loan Repayment Programs (LRP) that provide support to health professionals pursuing careers in biomedical and behavioral research. NIH can repay up to $50,000 a year of qualified educational debt through six different extramural programs.

Resources

The online application for the NIH LRP is considered complete only after it has been certified by UNC’s institutional business official. Even if an applicant has already submitted their application for the program, they still need to complete and return the UNC LRP Form to OSP in order to finalize the certification process in the NIH LRP system.
