The fellowship was established by members and friends of the Organ family as a lasting memorial to the extraordinary life and work of Dr. Organ. It is presented annually to an outstanding surgeon from the Society of Black Adademic Surgeons, the Association of Women Surgeons, or the Surgical Section of the National Medical Association.

Dr. Amos intends to use the fellowship to travel to Scotland as a visiting scholar at the Edinburgh Breast Unit at Western General Hospital.
