What were you looking for in a residency program?

A program that provides great clinical experience, supports diversity and has great faculty and residents. In making my decision, it was important that the program had a good balance and provided exposure to all aspects of cardiothoracic surgery. Being an underrepresented minority in surgery, finding a program with diverse faculty, residents, staff, and patient population was also important to me. Finally, I wanted to attend a program in which the faculty and residents were all down-to-earth and supportive. UNC checked all of these requirements.

Favorite thing about UNC?

The faculty, residents, APPs, and staff have a very amicable and supportive relationship which makes a big difference in what can be a very stressful job at times.

Favorite Surgery?

Heart transplant
