On December 3, 2014, the UNC Department of Surgery hosted its residents for a leadership development program in interpersonal effectiveness. Some of the issues the department hoped to instill in its residents included:

  • Understanding style differences and how to become more effective in dealing with others
  • Learning how to navigate within your division and organization; including, how to be an effective team member
  • Self-assessing current interpersonal effectiveness, identifying opportunities to strengthen skills and understanding the application of skills in an environment of diverse individuals and multi-dimensions of organizational change.
  • Practicing skills on real issues that impact participants’ daily lives as Surgical Residents
