It is with great sadness that we inform you about the passing of George F. Sheldon, MD, FACS, an icon in surgery and in the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Sheldon was with his family at the time of his passing. He was the Zack D. Owens Distinguished Professor of Surgery, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine.
His contributions to the American College of Surgeons have been exemplified by his leadership and service as a Regent and Past President—and just last year—as only the second recipient of the American College of Surgeons Lifetime Achievement Award.
