We are pleased to announce that Dr. Luigi Pascarella has been named the new Surgery M4 Director. He will be overseeing all of the 4th year medical students who participate in surgery rotations as part of the Individualization Phase of the Translational Education at Carolina (TEC) Curriculum. The Individualization Phase is the third and final phase of UNC Medical School education. During these 14 months, students will develop individual core clinical interests and skills with a focus on future career plans.

Dr. Pascarella is a dedicated teacher who is deeply committed to educating the next generation of physicians. He was appointed Assistant Professor in the Division of Vascular Surgery at UNC in May 2017. He received his Degree in Medicine and Surgery in 1997 from the Second University of Naples in Italy. He attended medical school at the University of Parma, Italy from 1998 to 2003. During his time in Parma, Dr. Pascarella also received a Diploma in Vascular Echography in the year 2000. Dr. Pascarella completed his General Surgery Residency in 2011 and Vascular Surgery Fellowship in 2013, both at Duke University. After completing his training, Dr. Pascarella accepted a faculty position as Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Iowa where he also served as Program Director for the General Surgery Residency Program. Dr. Pascarella is developing an open and endovascular surgery practice with a specific emphasis on growing a program to treat thoracic outlet syndrome.
