April 10, 2012 — Dr. Jaime Montaño, a surgeon from Cochabamba, Bolivia, traveled to Chapel Hill for a one-month fellowship with the Division of Surgical Oncology to study its multidisciplinary breast program.

According to Division Chief Benjamin Calvo, MD, Dr. Montaño was exposed to a “full complement of surgical, medical and radiation oncology specialists as well as multiple multidisciplinary conferences.” His goal while in Chapel Hill was to gain some understanding of the Breast Program implemented within the UNC Hospitals, as he is responsible for developing such a program at one of the largest hospitals in Bolivia.

The fellowship was sponsored by The State Department’s Partners of the Americas Program. Others who contributed to the success of the visit include Dr. Carlos Vargas, Ms. Katherine Stalberg, Dr. Lisa Carey and Susan McKenney.
