We understand that working with children and their families is challenging. Children are not pint sized versions of adults. They sometimes can’t articulate what is wrong or how they are feeling. They are not able to answer medical questions about their bodies or be patient during medical exams. Pediatric surgeons must then be individual in their approach to these patients and their caregivers.
Our surgical training program allows for medical student rotation within our pediatric surgery division so that students can see for themselves the impact our team makes on the lives of children. Our general surgery residency program also includes curriculum and rotation within the division to expose our residents to the specialty of pediatric surgery and give the residents the unique experience of working with children and the surgeons who care for them throughout their UNC Health medical journey.
