Our diversity mission statement: UNC Plastic Surgery is committed to valuing and respecting all people throughout our division and the health care organization, regardless of background, lifestyle, and culture. We believe the diversity of our division should be an accurate reflection of the diverse patient population we serve at UNC Hospitals. UNC Plastic Surgery strives to promote a diverse and inclusive work environment for all of our staff and residents, and to provide culturally sensitive care for our patients. These actions are essential to fulfilling our UNC Health vision of improving the health of all North Carolinians and others whom we serve.

Our residency program promotes diversity, equity, and inclusion, and advocates for communities of color through these initiatives:

  1. We participate in Carolina First Look
  2. Our Program Director participates in Mock Interview Simulations to help students prepare for the novelty of virtual interviews
  3. We have faculty that serve as Career Goal Advisors to medical students interested in Plastic Surgery to help them prepare applications, etc to optimize their chances of matching successfully into Plastic Surgery
