Chapel Hill is a modest sized town of 40,000 people that swells to an additional 24,000 during the academic year. Adjacent to Durham and Duke University and less than 30 miles from Raleigh, the state capital and home of North Carolina State University, the area is known as the Research Triangle. The Raleigh Durham International Airport (RDU) is at the center of the Triangle. Because the area is able to support a wide variety of cultural and athletic events without the congestion of a metropolitan environment, the Research Triangle area is consistently named one of the best places to live in the United States.
UNC Hospitals is comprised of four distinct and separate facilities: North Carolina Memorial Hospital, North Carolina Children’s Hospital, North Carolina Women’s Hospital, and North Carolina Neurosciences Hospital.
