The Department of Urology is delighted to announce the promotion of Dr. Davis Viprakasit to the position of “Professor of Urology.” Dr. Viprakasit’s journey – throughout his career – has been notable due to his dedication to providing outstanding clinical care, and many invaluable contributions to the field of urology. Congratulations, Dr. Viprakasit, on this significant milestone!
Dr. Viprakasit began his medical career at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago, IL, where he earned his medical degree and completed his urologic residency.
He then completed a Laparoscopy, Robotics, and Endourology fellowship at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN. This training allowed him to refine his surgical skills and delve into the cutting-edge aspects of urological care.
In 2011, Dr. Viprakasit joined the faculty of the UNC Department of Urology as an Assistant Professor. From the outset, he demonstrated a remarkable commitment to his field, taking on various responsibilities and making significant contributions to both patient care and academic pursuits.
Expertise in Kidney Stone Disease
Dr. Viprakasit’s specialization in all facets of kidney stone disease, from diagnosis and surgical treatment to medical prevention, has been instrumental in improving the lives of countless patients. His comprehensive approach to this condition reflects his dedication to providing holistic care.
Innovations in Urological Technology
Beyond kidney stone disease, Dr. Viprakasit has a clinical interest in new technologies for the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia and bladder outlet obstruction, showcasing his commitment to being a leader and innovator at the forefront of urological advancements.
Leadership in Multidisciplinary Care
Through his collaborations with the Division of Nephrology and Nutrition Services in the Department of Family Medicine, Dr. Viprakasit played a pivotal role in the formation of the Multidisciplinary Kidney Stone Program at UNC. This program exemplifies his dedication to addressing the kidney health concerns of high-risk patients through comprehensive, specialized care.
Pioneering Research
Dr. Viprakasit’s research interests have primarily focused on outcomes related to kidney stone surgery and the utilization of preventive measures for stone recurrence. His research contributions have not only advanced the field but have also shaped clinical practices.
Educational Excellence
Recognized for his exceptional teaching abilities, Dr. Viprakasit was appointed Associate Residency Program Director for the Department of Urology in 2013 and recently became the Program Director for the Endourology Fellowship Program. In a testament to his impactful mentoring, residents from UNC Urology bestowed upon him the title of Attending of the Year in 2017. Dr. Viprakasit’s unwavering dedication to education has left an indelible mark on students, residents, and fellow trainees alike.
