We are delighted to share that Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs and Leadership Development, Dr. Angela Smith has become a credentialed coach in the UNC SOM Coaching Academy by attaining the prestigious Associate Certified Coach (ACC) certification from the International Coaching Federation (ICF).

If you recall, back in June 2023, we proudly announced the successful completion of the intensive Level 2 Coach Training program by two esteemed faculty members of the Department of Urology – Drs. Katherine Chan and Angela Smith. The program, a collaboration between the UNC School of Medicine’s Coaching Academy and Pyramid Resource Group’s Healthcare Coaching Institute (HCI), is tailored for healthcare leaders and holds accreditation from both the ICF and Human Resource Capital Institute (HRCI).

Fast forward to the middle of December 2023, and we are pleased to share that Dr. Angela Smith has completed the necessary requirements to earn her the ICF Associated Certified Coach (ACC) credential.

To secure the ACC ICF credential, Dr. Smith dedicated herself to an extensive training journey, involving 120 hours of coaching training, over 100 additional hours of coaching clients, and successfully passing the high-level assessment – a series of 5 video performance reviews. Additionally, she successfully passed an intensive, 85-question coaching credentialing exam, demonstrating her commitment to excellence in the field of coaching.

This achievement highlights Dr. Smith’s personal dedication and showcases the commitment of the UNC School of Medicine to provide its faculty with cutting-edge coaching skills. The Level 2 program, which contributed to this success, blends theoretical knowledge with practical experience and peer coaching, covering essential topics such as Coaching Ethics, Establishing Agreements, Coaching in Healthcare, Mindfulness, and much more.

As we celebrate Dr. Angela Smith’s accomplishment, it’s important to recognize the broader impact this has on the UNC School of Medicine’s academic community. Dr. Smith, along with her peer, Dr. Katherine Chan, now serve as internal peer coaches within the UNC School of Medicine as they work with the Office of Faculty Affairs & Leadership Development to develop a coaching culture.

We look forward to witnessing the positive impact Dr. Angela Smith’s expertise will undoubtedly have on our academic community and the broader healthcare landscape.

Congratulations, Dr. Smith, on this remarkable achievement!
