UNC Urology Hosts Bladder Cancer Advocacy Network Regional Forum
On May 15, 2010, UNC Urology proudly hosted "Understanding Bladder Cancer - A Bladder Cancer Advocacy Network Patient Forum", at UNC's Friday Center. Dr. Matthew Nielsen and Dr. Raj Pruthi, UNC Urologic Oncology faculty and BCAN National Scientific Advisory Board Members, led a panel of regional bladder cancer experts in a comprehensive program outlining the detection, treatment and survivorship issues important for bladder cancer patients.
Fun in the Sun
Saturday, May 1, 2010, some residents and fellows got to enjoy a little relaxation 45 miles off the coast of Oregon Inlet, North Carolina. Urology residents Aaron Lentz, Javier Miller and Matt Pearson along with Urology fellow Brian DeFade, ENT resident Keith Ladner and AMS representative Will Gadd doing some deep sea fishing. They were on a boat named the Outrigger captained by Aaron Wright. They all tell me that the boat and its crew were incredible and their boat caught the most fish that day. A blue fin tuna weighing 180 lbs was caught along with several big eye tuna weighing between 80 - 100 lbs each.
UNC Urology Hosts TAGUS
The UNC Division of Urology faculty and residents hosted the Texas Association of Genitourinary Surgeons April 16 through April 18, 2010 at the beautiful Carolina Inn in Chapel Hill. UNC Urology faculty and residents presented one and half days of presentations on such topics as robotic cystectomy, CEVL - a new web based learning tool for residents, erectile dysfunction after prostate cancer, HIFU, among other topics. The azaleas were in bloom and the weather perfect for an afternoon of golf or a campus tour. It was a great weekend, new colleagues were met and a lifetime of friendships formed.
Dr. Michael Magee, Class of 1978 Visits UNC Urology
Dr. Michael Magee, Senior Fellow for Health Policy at the Center for Aging Services Technologies in Washington, DC and author of "Healthy Waters: What Every Health Professional Should Know About Water" presented as part of the UNC Global Health Seminar Series on Tuesday, February 2, 2010 "Dops of Life" at the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health. He also presented Surgery Grand Rounds on Wednesday, February 3, 2010 entitled "Powering Healthcare Visions: Taking Advantage of Complexity, Connectivity and Consumerism".

The University of North Carolina School of Medicine Division of Urology is pleased to announce their newest residency members, Raj Kurpad and Ian Udell, matched through the 2010 AUA Urology Match. They will join us as PGY1 urology residents starting June 24, 2010.
