Amy Penwarden, MD, is an Assistant Professor and member of UNC Department of Anesthesiology clinical faculty. She attended medical school at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, did residency at the University of North Carolina and completed a fellowship in obstetric anesthesiology at the University of North Carolina. After practicing anesthesia in private practice for 5+ years she returned to join the faculty at the University of North Carolina in 2023. She is currently the rotation director for obstetric anesthesia and is a member of the program evaluation committee for both the residency and the obstetric anesthesia fellowship. Her research interests include improving maternity care for marginalized populations. Away from the hospital Dr. Penwarden enjoys working in her wood shop on small furniture projects and the tedium of hand quilting.
