Welcome!

This website shares current activities in UNC Anesthesia Global Health and presents a vision for the future of global health initiatives in the UNC Department of Anesthesiology. The current focus is at Kamuzu Central Hospital in the capital city of Lilongwe in Malawi.  Malawi is one of the poorest countries in Africa and has been the partner country for UNC Project Malawi for over 20 years.

One of the strategic goals of the School of Medicine is to “develop a coherent strategy to expand global efforts in each of our missions as appropriate.” UNC Global Anesthesia supports this goal through a collaborative partnership with Kamuzu Central Hospital Anesthesia Department in Lilongwe, Malawi. Through this partnership, UNC Global Anesthesia offers resident and fellow international rotations, conducts quality improvement research, and partners in the training of Anesthesia Clinical Officer students through didactics and simulation-based training.

Given the resources within the UNC Department of Anesthesiology, and the mission of the broader University community to expand the UNC Global Health footprint, we are uniquely positioned to become one of the premier anesthesia global health programs in the country.
