Clinical Associate Professor, Human Development and Family Science
Faculty Fellow for Generative AI, Center for Faculty Excellence, UNC-Chapel Hill

Dr. Dana Riger is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Human Development and Family Science program at the UNC School of Education and serves as the Faculty Fellow for Generative AI with the UNC Center for Faculty Excellence. She brings a unique interdisciplinary perspective to her work, grounded in her background as a marriage and family therapist and her research on the intersections of technology, relationships, and learning.

Since joining the UNC faculty in 2019, Dr. Riger has focused on helping students and educators make meaningful, practical connections between theory, technology, and human experience. Her current scholarship explores the influence of technology on couples and families, including online dating and teletherapy, and she now extends that curiosity to how generative AI can transform education and professional practice.

Dr. Riger earned her Ph.D. in Human Development (Marriage and Family Therapy concentration) from Virginia Tech, an M.A. in Marriage and Family Therapy from Hofstra University, and a B.A. in Gender Studies from Indiana University.
