The UNC Midwifery Service has achieved Triple Aim national recognition for past consecutive 8 years.

Triple Aim status is achieved when Primary cesarean birth rate is less than 23.9%, preterm birth rate is less than 11.4%,  and the exclusive breastfeeding within the first 48 hours is greater than 81% and reporting fiscal information.

“Triple Aim” Best Practice recognizes practices which meet the Institute for Healthcare Improvement “Triple Aim” of improving the patient experience, reducing cost of care, and improving the health of populations. This is demonstrated by high breastfeeding rates, low preterm birth and cesarean rates, and reporting fiscal variables.

In 2020, 221 practices participated in the 2020 ACNM Benchmarking Project, 53 practices were designated Triple Aim Best Practices.
