Abstract:

Structural T1-weighted (T1w) imaging is the cornerstone of neuroanatomical imaging for both research and clinical applications. The MP-RAGE sequence is a broadly used T1w imaging method with minimal changes over the last 20+ years. Some of the limitations of T1w MP-RAGE include a fixed singular contrast, lack of quantitative measures, and sensitivity to head motion. To address these issues, our lab has developed a novel MPnRAGE method, which acquires inversion-recovery prepared imaging data using a 3D radial imaging sequence. This technique can obtain high resolution (~1mm isotropic), whole brain images with more than 200 T1w image contrasts in comparable imaging time to fully sampled MP-RAGE. In addition, MPnRAGE can provide quantitative T1 maps from the same data. Finally, retrospective motion correction methods have been developed to significantly improve image quality when motion occurs.
