The Small Animal MRI Core Facility is funded and operated under the Biomedical Research Imaging Center (BRIC). Our facility provides a wide variety of small animal MRI services to investigators within or outside UNC.

The Bruker Biospec 9.4T/30-cm horizontal bore animal MRI system is a shared instrumentation funded to UNC BRIC by NIH S10RR019924. This system is now equipped with a top-of-the-line 12-cm RRI gradient insert (1000 mT/m, and 120 µs 5-95% rise time) and various types of RF coils for high resolution imaging. In 2020, CAMRI received an NIMH Instrumentation Award S10MH124745 to upgrade the console of this system to the Bruker AVANCE NEO.

A brand new Bruker Biospec 9.4T/20-cm horizontal bore animal MRI system with a 4-ch rat brain cryoprobe will be installed in 2021, supported by NIH S10OD026796 and NC Biotech.

[3/18/2020] The Small Animal MRI Core remains open and will continue to serve studies as scheduled. In the meantime, we are monitoring the COVID-19 condition closely and will evaluate the feasibility of accepting new study requests on a case by case basis. Please feel free to contact us at camri@unc.edu should you have any questions.
