CGIBD Research Seminar – “Characterizing the colonic and ileal mucosal bacterial community in Crohn’s disease ” by Terry Furey, PhD
December 6, 2018 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
“Characterizing the colonic and ileal mucosal bacterial community in Crohn’s disease ”
Terry Furey, PhD
Associate Professor
Department of Genetics and the Department of Biology
The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
The Furey lab is interested in understanding IBD heterogeneity at the molecular and microbial levels. We use high throughput sequencing-based genomic assays to measure gene expression, chromatin accessibility, and microbial composition in tissue samples from well-phenotyped Crohn’s disease and non-IBD patients. With these, we aim to link unique molecular signatures with clinical variables to both uncover CD subtypes associated with disease phenotypes as well as begin elucidating potential cellular mechanisms driving disease.
