The UNC CF Tissue Procurement and Cell Culture Core, directed by Dr. Scott Randell and managed by Leslie Fulcher contributed to a pivotal study published in Cell by the laboratories of Drs. Richard Boucher and Ralph Baric. This study was the first to demonstrate that SARS-CoV-2 shows a gradient infectivity from the proximal to distal respiratory tract and that ciliated airway cells and AT-2 pneumocytes are primary targets for the virus.
