We want to extend a warm welcome to two new core directors this fall!

The Biomarker Mass Spectrometry Facility welcomed Zhenfa Zhang as the new core director in November! Dr. Zhang is an Associate Professor in the Department of Environmental Sciences and Engineering in the Gillings School of Global Public Health. In his own research, Zhenfa integrates synthetic chemistry and analytical techniques into many areas of research in environmental sciences in order to understand the chemical reactions behind the transformation of organic pollutants in living bodies and environments
The Hooker Imaging Core welcomed Wendy Salmon as the new core director in September! Wendy comes to the Department of Cell Biology and Physiology in the School of Medicine after working in four different microscopy core facilities over the last 18 years, with the last 10 years spent at the Whitehead Institute at MIT.  She also serves as a director for the intensive short course Analytical and Quantitative Light Microscopy at the Marine Biological Laboratory in Woods Hole, MA.  We are excited for both her broad experience in core facilities, her specialized background and knowledge in light microscopy, and ideas for fostering collaboration and enhancing the user experience at HIC!
