Organizational culture is our shared set of beliefs, values, attitudes and behaviors. It’s what you see and feel in every interaction at UNC Health.
Culture influences everything, from how we treat our teammates, patients and communities to where we invest our time and energy, and it serves as a powerful differentiator from other health systems.
As teammates, we are all champions in creating a collaborative and positive environment in which to work, learn, and receive care.
A Message From Dr. Burks On Culture:
At UNC Health, we always lead with our mission to promote the health and well-being of the people of North Carolina. I am honored every day to work alongside 45,000 teammates as we work to do just that. I truly believe Healthcare is an awesome profession and a noble calling. Those who choose this profession share a sincere desire to help those that we serve live happy, healthy lives. That shared commitment to our patients and the ways that we support each other in our work make up the culture of UNC Health.
Culture can be hard to define, but I see it in the bonds that we have with each other and the many ways that we support our patients and each other. The people of UNC Health, our one great team, are what make this such a special place to work, and each of us has a role in defining our culture. As CEO of UNC Health, I’m committed to ensuring that all teammates work in an environment where they feel supported and have the tools necessary to ensure their success.
Together with teammates across the organization, our Office of Culture and Engagement is working to create an environment that ensures we are the best place for teammates to work, enables everyone to have the tools and resources to fulfill our purpose, and creates a place of belonging through a set of shared values.
Culture influences everything, how we treat one another, the behaviors we reward, and where we invest. It serves as a powerful differentiator from other health systems and creates an environment that we are all proud to work in. Culture is not created overnight. It takes a lot of time and effort from all of us.
So whether you’re new to UNC Health or someone like me who’s been around for a few years, thank you for all that you do and I look forward to being on this journey together.
