Forward Together Research Update

May 17, 2021 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

In 2019, the UNC School of Medicine released “Forward Together” a strategic plan meant to guide the institution through the next five years and move us closer to our goal of becoming the nation’s leading public school of medicine.

Forward Together was designed to build upon the School of Medicine’s many strengths, with focused investment and new initiatives in six key areas:

  • Research
  • Education
  • Faculty
  • Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
  • Service
  • Administration

Now, two years into the implementation of Forward Together, significant progress has been made. To celebrate these accomplishments, discuss future goals, and answer faculty questions, a series of Forward Together Faculty Updates will take place over the next several weeks.

Full details are available here.

Sessions will be led by Vice Deans from the respective mission areas and also feature expert panelists from faculty and administrative leadership.

The first meeting will take place Monday, May 17, and focus on the research strategic imperative led by Blossom Damania, PhD, Vice Dean for Research. John Buse, David Peden, Shakira Henderson, Jennifer Brennan, and Bob Duronio will join as panelists.

Meetings will take place on WebEx and faculty are encouraged to submit questions in advance.

“In 2019, we developed a plan that will better position us to become the nation’s leading school of medicine. Over the last year, even as we have faced the COVID-19 pandemic, we have continued work on the implementation of the Forward Together plan. I am personally so appreciative of our SOM leaders, faculty, staff, and many others who have kept this work progressing at an incredible pace,” said Cristy Page, MD, MPH, Executive Dean of the UNC School of Medicine.

“I encourage all faculty members to make time to attend at least one of these sessions to better understand the work that has been done thus far, the goals that are still ahead of us, and, most importantly to understand how we can all become involved in moving our School of Medicine forward together.”
