A Whole-to-Part Model of Silent Reading Comprehension
Presented by:
Karen Erickson, Ph.D., The Center for Literacy & Disability Studies, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Stephanie Spadorcia, Ph.D., Lesley University
Filmed and Produced by Infinitec, A joint effort of the United Cerebral Palsy Association of Greater Chicago and United Cerebral Palsy Associations, Inc., Washington, DC.
Addressing the literacy and literacy-related technology needs of struggling readers does not have to be based on trial and error. This three-part video begins with a framework for understanding what is required for successful silent reading comprehension. In the second part, viewers will learn specific strategies to determine an individual student’s reading instructional needs. Finally, the third part provides guiding questions that link individual student strengths and weaknesses in reading with assistive technology decision-making. (The set includes three separate videos, each about 30 minutes in length.)
