Directions (Clinical Rotations)
UNC Hospitals Laboratories
All laboratories are on the first floor of the main hospital.
Veterans Administration (VA) Medical Center Laboratories
When you are facing the hospital you will see a Patient Entrance and the Ambulance Entrance. The map below shows the elevators which are nearest the ED (brown elevators). If you want to enter there you should see an information desk with greeters who can help you.
Another option is to follow the open walkway near the dropoff circle & flagpole. When you go through the doors at the end of the walkway you will see Starbucks to your left, and directly across from that are the blue elevators. Labs are on the 3rd floor, follow the signs in the hallways.
Duke University Medical Center Laboratories
Special Hematology (Rm 0216 Duke South, Orange Zone): When you are facing the front entrance to Duke South/Clinics you will see an older building to the left. Go to this building and take Entrance 2. Special Heme is down the steps to the left.
Coagulation (1520 Hudson Building): From the Duke North lobby, walk past the information desk on the right. Continue to the right of the elevators and take the hall to the immediate right (towards Eye center, Starbucks, Subway and DUHS Clinical Laboratories). Follow the long carpeted hallway toward DUH Clinical Labs. Straight ahead will be DCAL: Duke Central Automated Lab. (Hudson Bldg.)
Note: Go to the Central Specimen Drop-off window and have them call Coag. for us to open the door.
Microbiology: From the Duke North lobby, walk past the information desk on the right. Continue to the right of the elevators and take the hall to the immediate right (towards Eye center, Starbucks, Subway and DUHS Clinical Laboratories). Follow the long carpeted hallway toward DUH Clinical Labs. Microbiology will be on the right (Wadsworth Bldg.)
Transfusion Medicine: From the Duke North lobby, look for signs to the Emergency Department. You will walk toward the right down a hallway. About halfway down the hallway, there is an entrance to the ED on the left with signs for the Transfusion Service. Follow those signs to the lab.
WakeMed Laboratories
Park in the “P1” Visitor parking deck. From level 3 there is a bridge that will take you to the visitor lobby. On your first day, just call the clinical coordinator listed on your syllabus and someone will meet you and show you the way to the laboratory.
