About
The Neuro STEP UP program was created in 2020 as an expansion from the original Multiple Sclerosis STEP UP program, referred to as MS STEP UP, formed in 2008.
The MS STEP UP program was a unique education and scholarship track developed by the Division of Physical Therapy at UNC in collaboration with the Greater Carolinas Chapter of the National MS Society [link embedded] in response to a local need for physical therapists with expertise in treating individuals with multiple sclerosis. Dr. Angela Rosenberg, PT, DrPH initiated this program with two student scholars. Since its inception, many scholars have graduated and pursued neurologic physical therapy careers and gained experience and knowledge in treating individuals with MS.
Neuro STEP UP is a continuation of the MS STEP UP program with an expanded focus on neurodegenerative diseases. The curriculum includes specialized training in Multiple Sclerosis (MS), Parkinson’s Disease (PD), and Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). Many of the key pillars from the original MS STEP UP program remain.
Program Support from Angela and Marty Rosenberg
The STEP UP program continues to thrive due in part to the generous support from Dr. Angela and Marty Rosenberg. In 2019, they endowed the Angela and Marty Rosenberg MS STEP UP Endowment for Multiple Sclerosis and Neurodegenerative Diseases in Physical Therapy. Their partnership with the Division of Physical Therapy ensures future students can continue to specialize in treating patients with neurodegenerative diseases in North Carolina.
