Clinical education is an integral part of the overall process of becoming an occupational therapist and results from a strong collaborative relationship among faculty, clinical fieldwork supervisors and students. In the master of science program in occupational therapy, clinical education that takes place beyond the classroom occurs in two levels and at multiple points throughout the two-year curriculum.
- Level I fieldwork consists of short-term opportunities to gain exposure to varied practice settings at times that are embedded within the academic curriculum.
- Level II fieldwork occurs as two full-time, 12-week internships.
The academic fieldwork coordinator is responsible for managing all aspects of planning, scheduling, and monitoring fieldwork experiences.
