UNC Health’s Care Redesign Team is pleased to announce that Lavinia Kolarczyk, MD, FASA, has been named Medical Director for Perioperative Care Redesign, effective March 1. In this new role, Dr. Kolarczyk will lead our System’s Enhanced Recovery after Surgery (ERAS) program, which works to implement evidence-based surgical pathways across UNC Health and has proven to help our patients recover faster, have fewer infections and ICU days, and require less opioid medicine after surgery. In addition, she will serve as a physician consultant for other Care Redesign programs that will benefit from a perioperative physician’s perspective.
Dr. Kolarczyk is a Cardiothoracic Anesthesiologist and Associate Professor of Anesthesiology at the UNC School of Medicine. She also holds several physician leadership roles, including Division Chief of Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology, Associate Director of the UNC Institute for Healthcare Quality Improvement and an active member of the Medical Staff Physician Excellence Committee and Medical Staff Executive Committee.
