Dr. Jennifer Elston Lafata earned her BSPH from UNC Chapel Hill and her doctorate in Health Services Management and Policy from the University of Michigan School of Public Health. She returned to UNC in 2016 as faculty in the Division of Pharmaceutical Outcomes and Policy at the Eshelman School of Pharmacy. She co-leads the UNC Cancer Care Quality Initiative and serves as an Improvement Advisor with UNC Health. Before returning to UNC, she held leadership positions at Henry Ford Health and the Massey Cancer Center at Virginia Commonwealth University. A health services researcher committed to patient-centered care, her work focuses on cancer care delivery and decision-making. As a practice-embedded researcher, she uses health system data, including electronic health records and other sources, to identify and address multi-level factors influencing care quality. She has extensive experience partnering with healthcare organizations to develop, implement, and evaluate innovative care models.
