Medicine Grand Rounds, Marie Demay, “FGF23 in Normal Physiology and Disease”

January 19, 2017 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

}

Marie DemayFGF23 was initially identified by linkage analysis of a rare genetic disorder characterized by rickets and hypophosphatemia. Subsequent investigations identified FGF23 as a major regulator of mineral ion homeostasis under normal physiological conditions. Increased levels of FGF23 contribute to the pathology observed in numerous disease states, including chronic kidney disease. This lecture will discuss the physiologic role of FGF23 and its contributions to disease pathology.

Marie Demay is Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School. Her clinical interests include calcium disorders, endocrinology, and osteomalacia. Her current research projects include the role of the vitamin D receptor in keratinocyte stem-cell function and the role of mineral ions and hormones on growth-plate development and maturation using a model of X-linked hypophosphatemia.
