Dr. Weber’s research interests include hospital-associated (nosocomial) infections especially antibiotic-resistant pathogens, surveillance, disinfection and sterilization, nosocomial pneumonia, hand hygiene, and outbreak investigations. Other research interests include new and emerging infectious diseases (Pfiesteria, CJD, Norwalk agent, Candida auris, CRE), infections in child care centers, tuberculosis, and bioterrorist agents.

Through his roles as medical director of hospital epidemiology and associate chief medical officer of UNC Health Care, Dr. Weber works to prevent hospital-acquired infections in patients and staff at UNC Hospitals.  He is the Chair of UNC Hospitals’ Pharmacy and Therapeutic Committee. Standing Orders Committee, and Anti-Infectives Subcommittee.  He is a Chair of the UNC IRB.  He is the Medical Director of the UNC Statewide Program in Infection Control and Epidemiology (SPICE) and NC Department of Health’s TB Advisory Committee.
