Virtual Medicine Grand Rounds: Deepa Kirk, MD, “Updates and Controversies in the Management of Thyroid Dysfunction.”

Deepa Kirk, MD,  received her medical degree at the University of North Carolina
School of Medicine and completed her residency, chief residency, and endocrine
fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania. She joined the UNC Division of
Endocrinology in 2008, following two years of clinical practice in Virginia.
Dr. Kirk’s clinical practice focuses on patients with thyroid disease, diabetes, and
general endocrine disorders. She served as director of the UNC medical student
endocrine block for seven years, two of which it was selected as “Best Foundation
Phase Block”. She has directed the medical student ambulatory endocrine rotation for
over ten years.
Since becoming medical director of the UNC Diabetes and Endocrine Clinic in 2014, Dr.
Kirk has worked with Department and hospital leadership on several initiatives
including: establishment of the EEP (direct EPIC support) program, Care Team
Redesign, and pilot programs to support the Department’s March 2021 move to the
Eastowne Medical Office Building.
Dr. Kirk has also served as Associate Chief for Clinical Affairs for the Endocrine Division
since 2019. In this role, she had the joy and immense privilege of recruiting several
outstanding clinical faculty members and helping to develop the Division’s pituitary and
thyroid tumor workflows. She works closely with Division, Department, and health care
system leadership to improve patient access, care coordination, and care delivery.
