About

Dr. Stern’s research interests include examining the risk factors for and impact of delirium in acutely ill patients as well as exploring the possibility of a catatonic subtype of delirium. In addition, she is interested in quality improvement projects to improve patient care both in the hospital and after discharge from the hospital. Her clinical interests include learning to utilize point of care ultrasound to augment diagnosis of health and disease at the bedside.

As an academic hospitalist, I enjoy having the opportunity to teach medical students and residents, work on quality improvement initiatives, and the challenge of providing complex clinical care to acutely ill patients. However, I find that taking care of patients is the most gratifying part of my job. I take pride in being a strong patient advocate. I work hard to understand my patients’ perspectives and help them to understand their disease so that they know what to expect and feel empowered to play an active role in improving their health.
