Keia Sanderson, MD

Preterm birth is common and increases one’s risk for kidney disease. Keia Sanderson, MD, MSCR, has received an NIH K23 award, supported by the NIDDK, to identify maternal and neonatal risk factors to help predict childhood kidney disease earlier.

This is a 3-year career development award. Dr. Sanderson, MD, will utilize a machine learning approach to help identify additional risk factors from maternal, neonatal, and early life exposures that can help to better define kidney screening approaches for children after preterm birth. She will also work to develop a clinical tool that can be embedded in electronic medical records to help guide clinicians through kidney health screenings for children born preterm.
