Following is a letter of appreciation to medicine faculty, from Nina M. Browner, MD, for demonstrating “Herculean” efforts during the pandemic. Browner is the Bryson Distinguished Associate Professor of Neurology and vice-chair for education in the UNC Department of Neurology.

December 3, 2020

Dear Dr. Falk,

As a program director and physician of many potentially vulnerable to COVID patients I have been very busy past few months, but for a few weeks now my thoughts are coming back to the amazing faculty of your Department who had been taking care of COVID patients continuously since March.

I am not sure whether there is a particular forum or a place where one can express deepest gratitude and respect to all the faculty, residents and staff who work at the dedicated COVID units while we have the opportunity to take care of our COVID-free patients. Since I do not know of such forum, I wanted to send you this email.

If it is possible, could you please share with them that all of us, who are outside of immediate patient care within the COVID units would like to thank them from the bottom of our hearts. We are forever grateful for their commitment to our community and our profession. We are in awe of their effective leadership and impressive clinical skills. We truly appreciate their Herculean effort in creating the right support for the patients and the whole UNC hospital community and many North Carolinians.

We see you and we know how hard it has been for the past 8 months.  If we could do anything to help, or to bring respite, or show tangibly our support, please say the word and let us know.

Best wishes,

Nina
