In a recently published ASCO article, Abner Murray, MD, PhD, UNC hematology/oncology fellow, discusses the importance of scientific communication and how to effectively prepare for scientific presentations.

Presenting at a scientific conference is a unique stage. You are given just a few minutes to shape how your evidence and research is interpreted, disseminated, and ultimately translated into care, so it is crucial that you provide a clear, concise presentation. In giving advice on how to effectively present at a conference, Dr. Murray highlights specific tips for developing your presentation, acing your delivery, and facilitating the conversation.
Speaking on the overall importance of a good scientific presentation, the article states, “How you present your findings shapes how they are understood, remembered, and applied. In a field where evidence evolves quickly and stakes are measured in lives, clarity is a skill and a responsibility.”
