Myron Cohen, MD, the Yeargan-Bate Distinguished Professor of Medicine, Microbiology and Immunology, and Epidemiology and associate vice chancellor for Global Health and Medical Affairs, says the estimates will take on real meaning in the next few months. In the article, Cohen, who is also director of the Institute for Global Health & Infectious Diseases, explains that the case fatality rate measures only “death in discovered or recognized cases.” It does not consider the people who fell ill but didn’t tell anyone.
